Baltimore, Maryland is a historic east coast city with all the modern conveniences a tourist could ask for. From exploring the Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry to spending an afternoon in the city’s many museums, you and your family will have a great time exploring Baltimore. If you aren’t sure when to take your vacation, here are the best seasons to travel to Baltimore.
Summer
When you want to have warm temperatures and a lot of attractions and events to choose from, the summertime is the best time to travel to Baltimore. While it is the peak travel season for the city, you can easily search for hotels in Baltimore such as Courtyard by Marriott well in advance to find rates that fit your budget.
If you visit Baltimore between June and August you will be able to participate in a variety of summertime events. Some of the best-loved city events include festivals, concerts and holiday celebrations. If you want to celebrate the working-class history of Baltimore, make sure to stop by the HonFest in June where you can see hundreds of ’60s-era Hons. Another fun and free event in June is the African American festival which always includes a number of celebrities and live music performances.
Because of Baltimore’s historical significance in the creation of America as a country, they know how to put on a great Fourth of July event. Baltimore’s celebrations include live music performances and spectacular fireworks show over the Inner Harbor. The month of July also hosts the Caribbean Carnival, Artscape and Baltimore Pride.
For visitors coming to Baltimore in August, the festivals and events for the city have a wide-ranging appeal. In August you can experience medieval times at the Maryland Renaissance Festival or relax with some great musical acts at the Hot August Music Festival.
Fall and Spring
For those travelers who may want to avoid the heat and humidity of the summer months, Baltimore can also be a pleasant destination in the spring and fall months. Although spring and fall may have cool enough temperatures to need a light jacket, you will find the mild averages suitable for both indoor and outdoor attractions.
April and May bring a beautiful bloom of flowers in Baltimore. If you stop by the FlowerMart, you will be able to not only see a wide range of interesting flowers, but you can also shop and enjoy dishes from a range of food vendors. If films are more your pace, you can also check out the Maryland Film Festival in May where independent filmmakers from all over the world showcase their work to the public.
In the fall, Baltimore is a great place to visit if love football, wine or comic books. The Ravens play throughout the fall and if they are your team, you can catch one of their home games. September and October are also great times to check out Comic-Con or the Maryland Wine Festival which showcases a wide variety of locally made wine.
Although events and festivals are just a small part of what Baltimore has to offer, the timing for these events can help you plan the perfect vacation for you and your family the next time you want to visit Baltimore.
