Having young kids running around the house means one thing: possible accidents and injuries. While it is sure fun to see them having a good time, safety and security should still be thought every moment. If you are about to have kids or already have, it is best to reconsider some aspects of your home design. Is your house child friendly? How about the furniture around the house?
Child friendly furniture does not only pertain to the things that your child would use but it could be the furnishings around the house that will not pose as a safety threat to the young kids. They are designed not to entirely prevent such accidents to happen but to at the very least minimize the damages and injuries.
Some homeowners might think that there’s only a limited selection for child friendly furniture and that the designs might be just a few as well. This is a wrong notion, being child friendly doesn’t automatically equate to having designs that are for kids. If you are weary about buying such furniture here is some information to help you make the right decision:
In choosing a dining or center table, go for one with no sharp corners. Children running around could easily bump into the tables and the sharp edges could inflict wounds on them. Choose a table that is made of wood rather than glass. A round corner with a soft wicker is a better alternative than a pointed corner. If you are looking for a table and chair for your kid’s room, look for a type that is just right for their age.
Avoid standing lamps with long electrical cords. If you wish to have lamps installed around the house, having a wall mounted one is a safer option. Making your home child friendly doesn’t mean that all the furniture is to be replaced, if you have fixtures that could be considered as a safety hazard for your kids, keep it along the corners. Provide enough room around the house for your children to move freely without any restrictions.
