Out of all the versions of the Real Housewives franchise, the New Jersey seasons have always focused on familial relationships and the drama that ensues. If you’ve been a fan from the start, you know that the series has seen more than its fair share of family rifts and reconciliations, and season 5 will be no exception. The drama between sisters and sister-in-laws, as well as issues in long standing friendships will be on full display. Here is some of what you can expect on the current season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Background
Some of the drama on the Real Housewives of New Jersey (RHONJ) stems from past seasons of the show. Caroline and Dina, for instance, were once close and shared the relationship you’d expect from loving sisters. Once Dina left the show, however, the two had an argument and have been on shaky ground. While the cause of the rift is somewhat ambiguous, Theresa is thought to have been a part of why Dina became upset with Caroline. This continues to be a point of contention between Theresa and Caroline, and will be addressed in season 5. Sisters-in-law Theresa and Melissa also have a long standing history of bickering, and you can expect their attempts at amends and continued arguments to be on the show this year as well.
The Kid Factor
Because Melissa and Theresa are sisters-in-law, their children are cousins who are seen as deeply affected by their parents’ acrimonious relationship on this season. More than ever before, you can see the impact of the fight between these two women on the children that they both love. In the premiere episode, Theresa’s oldest daughter actually helps her mother compose a text message to send to Melissa during a tense text message conversation. The pair also have daughters around the same age, Melania and Antonia, who continue to ask when they can see each other again and witness some of the banter between their mothers.
