It seems like it was just yesterday that I could still remember the good old days when I had my summer vacations when I was still young.
I always look forward to the months of April and May because during those months, my mom sends me and my siblings to our province at Tarlac and let us stay with our relatives.
I have lots of cousins within my age bracket at Tarlac, and summer is the only time I get to see them.
I admit, I really take summer vacations seriously. You will never see me inside the house.
I just want to stay out, get dirty, roam around and go home when it’s time to eat and sleep. I must admit, I am one of the laziest kids on the block because helping around the house is not included in my list of things to do everyday.
Maybe my aunt and uncle despise me for doing that, but the young me just doesn’t care.
There were no any form of gadgets for me at that time. I remember that the TV was still black and white and that you need to have a car battery to make it function. Yes, I have witnessed the stone era (okay just kidding)
Me and my cousins liked to climb trees and ate whatever it is that is on that tree. We also ate flower nectars. We were curious and because of that, I learned that burnt matches has a bitter taste hahaha.
We liked to go swimming in the nearest river with our favorite companions – the ducks and carabaos (so now you know what we usually smell like when we go home). We also liked running from one barrio to another (that is around 10KM each), oh how I wish I can still do this now.
I was an active kid, and as much as possible, I want my son to be just like that too.
For me through this short summer getaway, I learned how to socialize with other kids.
In today’s generation, there are already lots of distractions that hinders kids to learn through playing outside.
But I am glad that various companies like McDonald’s knows that kids should learn how to be responsible, to socialize and be active through their Kiddie Crew Workshops.
It is a 5-day summer program specially designed for kids ages 6-12 years old. During each workshop day, the Kiddie Crew members will get to experience on-floor training like greeting customers and assisting the crew at the drive-thru and front counters; showcase their skills through creative art workshops; and learn the importance of hard work, discipline and teamwork, through values formation lessons.
Here is a good news! McDonald’s in partnership with LEVYousa will be giving away 4 Mcdonald’s Kiddie Crew kits for your young ones. Yes, summer is not yet over and here is their chance to experience how it is to be a McDonald’s crew.

Just like you summer is my favorite time of the year next to christmas vacation of course, I am so excited for summer because it was the only time when we will visit my grandmother and grandfather’s house , their town fiesta. So excited to have a taste of my lolo’s asado, the best one ever, so sad I didn’t get the recipe so I can share it to my kids and grandchildren in the future. He will just cooked asado for us and only once a year when it was their town fiesta. I miss those days when I have to keep some for me to eat the next day and found out that they all doing that too! Every vacation on my lolo and lola’s house will always be the best summer experience for me.

We grew up in the city, so there’s really no province to go to every summer like you had, but we played in the streets with our friends the whole day (patintero, sipa, luksong baka, luksong tinik, tumbang preso, Chinese garter, taguan), and that’s, I guess, my favorite childhood summer experience.

My favorite summer childhood experience as far as I could remember is going to my grandfather and grandmother’s house, where I will stay there for the whole month, being their favorite “APO” I am able to do what I wanted. I can get without any fear that my mother would scold me. My Lola even let me help me cook and I am able to hold spatula. I really feel so free with them. I love my LOLO and LOLA so much and I am missing them so much.
