I have read somewhere that living in simplicity and counting our blessings are simple things that CAN make us feel happy. I remember when I was young, my mom always ask me to accompany her to the wet market. She usually leaves me in some cozy place with the bags of groceries so that she can move around the market freely, I am the look out of our grocery items. When she is finished buying, she usually treats me to a plate of spaghetti inside the market. I can still remember the excitement I felt while sitting at that not so sanitary place and eating my spaghetti together with other market sellers, bunch of drivers and kids like me. I am so innocent, we don’t have the luxury of even eating at Jollibee back then, which I assume at that time it was already considered as a fine dining restaurant. Yet we’re happy!!!
We are not rich now, but I can say that we have passed the time when we have few choices of food to eat at the table. I can already eat anytime at fast foods, but my taste buds are already looking for more exquisite flavors. I’ve been dreaming to dine at any 5 star Hotels and when I had the opportunity to do so, still I am not fulfilled. It’s the nature of every man – “no contentment!”
Now, since I had the chance to both see the beauty of living in luxury and living simply, I can say that I still prefer the latter. If you live simply you are more appreciative, you are grateful, you can give more and yet expect less.
So, join me and let us all try to live in simplicity.
