When I grow up, I want to travel the World!
That’s what I would always tell my friends when we were teenagers. I’m sure most teens think that way. It’s that sense of adventure that makes most of us want to travel. Besides, having been born from a regular income family earner, I wasn’t as lucky to be on trips compared to those from well-off families.
As a kid, my dream destination had always been NYC. There is something about New York that makes me so fascinated. I have Sex and the City series partly to be blamed for that, in a way. I have not missed an episode. I’m sure a lot of women my age can relate to me. Kidding aside, I have always imagined being an independent woman living in New York. I am also following influencers who are New York-based. That’s how consistent I am with my love for the place. I am feeling ecstatic that I am on my way to fulfilling that dream already. New York is a melting pot of different cultures that would give that feeling of having a daily tour around the world. It feels so empowering just the thought of it. So much to learn from and of course, enjoy.
Though I think that it’s not so safe yet to be traveling due to this pandemic, I have been busy researching about the place, and the rates of rooms there. It is best to have an idea as to how much would it cost to be living there or where I could stay. We are so lucky though that at this time and age, it is made much easier to live independently anywhere, I must say. Everything is just at our fingertips. I can’t imagine myself going to a place for the first time, and walk around looking for a place to stay just like old times. These days, even if you don’t have relatives or friends to pick you up from the airport and orient you to the places around, it’s no longer a problem.
More than being able to go to my dream destination, I am having mixed emotions, mostly positive emotions, about living alone in a new place for me soon. Right now, I have three rooms to choose from already. Everything is just so beautiful that I am having a hard time choosing. But that’s a good problem, right. I am being careful which room to choose because it will be my Home away from home. This is like a marriage for me, marriage to my independence! Overall, I am just so excited about this whole process. Once I get adjusted to that new life there, that’s when I will start occasional trips again.
An uncle once told me that, traveling is one of the best investments anyone could have. By the time I got to travel by myself for the very first time, I was able to confirm what he meant. It was such an eye-opener to be on trips. There is just so much to the world to enjoy and get fascinated about. I am pretty sure that this line which my uncle told me then, stayed with me ever since, which led me to this New York dream and more. Thanks to him!
