Buying or renting a house is an important and exciting time in most people’s lives. Many people spend a significant amount of time, effort and money in decorating the house to make it into an ideal home, boasting of their personalities.
However, a few years later this very home, so lovingly decorated, starts showing signs of wear and tear eventually looking worn out and run down. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find the time or the money to redo home decoration, however, there are ways to add simple touches to revive your home.
In this article, we explore simple things you can do to bring your home back to life without spending too much time, energy or money.
A Feature Wall
The walls are the first to show signs of wear and tear and it isn’t always possible to paint the room because it involves a lot of time decluttering and making space to paint. An ideal way to revive your room is to create a feature wall. You can either paint just one wall, it is easier than painting all four or you may choose to wallpaper the wall.
A feature wall is ideal in directing eyes away from the rest of the walls. If you decide to paint use a colour which is vibrant yet not too sharp and overpowering. The colour needs to highlight the rest of the furniture and accessories in the room.
If you decide to choose wallpaper, select wallpaper with a sheen so that the light can bounce off it, creating a luxurious feel to the room.
Dressing the Windows
Windows are the main feature in any room, allowing light to enter and illuminate the entire room. No matter how well the room is furnished, however, if the windows are cracked, they will dampen the effect of the entire décor. It is always good to fill in any cracks around the window and use a sealant to create a finished look.
It is important to dress the window correctly to create the feel of the room. Curtains or blinds are an ideal way to dress windows. Your old curtains may be looking quite worn out or the design or the colour is now out of fashion, a simple option to update your room is to change the curtains or blinds.
Dependent on the look you want to create you may opt for blinds or curtains. You have several options, you can either buy ready-made or made to measure curtains or blinds. Spending a little bit extra on the made to measure curtains or blinds could afford you a better choice of fabric and colours which you may not be able to get with ready-made ones.
Cushions and Accessories
Every room in the house could be accessorised with simple things to create a specific colour scheme, style or ambience of the room. Replacing worn-out cushions in your living room or bedroom could bring an immediate change to the room. Mix and match cushion colours, designs and textures to create a comfortable atmosphere of the room. Add a throw which accentuates the colours of the cushions, creating a very warm homey feeling.
Wall Art
Another affordable and simple home decoration idea is to hang art pieces on your walls. Wall art is an ideal way to give your home a touch of your own personality. You can hang personal photographs, create your own art to hang or some unique pieces which represent you. You can mix the sizes and colours of the artwork and frames to add warmth to your home. Empty walls are like a blank canvass ready to be moulded and made your own.
Replace the Rug
Rugs are great in creating a welcoming and warm feeling of the room. Your rug may be looking worn out from the constant footsteps and spillages, replacing the rug can give a feeling of newness and freshness to the room. Having a rug which is large enough so that it creates a central feature around your furniture is a good way of creating a central hub in the room, especially in the living rooms where your family and guests feel comfortable to gather together and enjoy each other’s company.
As you can see it is really not too difficult to give your home a facelift without breaking the bank or taxing your time. We hope you enjoy your home decoration.
