The Philippines are one of the world’s most exotic locations and their mix of natural beauty tropical setting make them a must-see destination for travelers the world over. Given their location, a trip to the Philippines can sometimes result in a lot of money spent during your vacation. Thankfully, this needn’t be the case, and there are some great ways to see the Philippines without spending all your money.
Be Your Own Tour Guide
Many people feel that the best way to experience the culture and history of the Philippines is by hiring a tour guide, which can be expensive. However, there’s nothing to stop you educating yourself about the wonders of the area. There are hundreds of great guide books you can find to give you information on the country as a whole, while making your own way round with detailed maps can be fun! Check on relevant websites and forums with people who have already experienced the best of what the Philippines has to offer and ask them for
travel tips.
Tone Down Your Accommodation
One sure-fire way to send your expenses rocketing is by staying in pricey five star hotel. However, one of the most enjoyable ways to see the nation is by staying with a local family. There are also plenty of sites online where you can find couches and spare rooms to sleep in, either for a price or with the understanding that you will one day return the favour for those you are staying with. Hostels can also be a great way to save a penny or two if you are not too bothered about missing out on creature comforts.
Watch What You Eat…And Where You Eat
Part of going on holiday is escaping the day-to-day grind of your regular life, and many people use the occasion of going on holiday to eat out in restaurants every night. Unfortunately, this can get very expensive very quickly. If you are renting a whole apartment or sharing living quarters with others, resist the temptation to go out all the time and cook a few meals for yourself indoors. Discount supermarkets are just as prevalent in the Philippines as they are in the Western world and you can save a fortune by cutting out just a few fancy restaurant meals during your stay.
Use Coupons
People often think that voucher websites like Groupon are intended more for those purchasing from online stores, but they also have a wide international reach. These websites can provide a variety of deals, from discounts on restaurants in Cebu, to shopping coupons Manila, to offers on hotels & travel arrangements! Capitalizing on these deals is a great way to save cash while you are out there.
Find Employment
If you are spending an extended period of time in the Philippines, you might want to think about looking for work to keep the cash coming in. This doesn’t have to be work in the local area; after all, with the internet you can perform a range of freelancing tasks with only a computer and an internet connection.

I’ve always follow “tone your accomodation” like in boracay it’s better to stay in a cheap/affordable B&B than luxurious hotel because you’ll be staying outside naman most of the time 😉

As a budget traveler, I totally agree with all of these! Maybe except for using coupons (I still find DIY travel cheaper if you research well). 🙂

I get a lot of savings by using mileage to travel aside from promos. Also, sometimes, you just have to be practical in the accommodation and food choices.
