Have you ever tried to google search your name? My cousin had a few of her teen friends over last weekend. As I came to offer them some snacks and refreshments, I found them hunched over the desktop giggling over something they found on the net. It turns out that they were googling their names and those of their other friends as well. It makes you realize how one’s reputation can be established with the use of the web.
Come to think of it, a lot of us do our transactions over the web already. We socialize, do our business and even study in the web. This means that there is a lot of data about ourselves that may be found in the cyberworld.
I actually tried googling myself, without the giggles of course, and found several pages of information related to me posted on the web. The information was mostly about social networking sites, blog sites and blog posts that I made. You can also find pictures and data of your namesakes who have presence in the web.
This is a cool tool that you can use to find people whom you lost touch with, and a way for you to create a reputation for yourself in the web. Just be careful that you don’t share too much information or you might be victims of identity theft. On the other hand you can also use this tool to check if there are people blatantly using your personal information without your consent.
