A few months ago, we took a trip to the Leonie Agri Corporation or LAC farm which produces Lagundi leaves for an herbal cough medicine. During the trip we were educated on the health and environmental benefit of organic farming together with an overview of the processes involved in making the cough medicine. Although we weren’t given a hands-on experience, it spiked my interest in going back to the basics and learning more about doing things the natural and old fashioned way.
I found a lot of interesting travel experience for those who want to learn about organic goods and making items from scratch just like how our forefathers did. There is an online travel program from WWOOF or World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms where you can learn about the organic lifestyle and enjoy free food and lodging in exchange for volunteer help around the farm. If I can find the time this is something that I would also like to experience. For now I am content with farm and eco-tours that I can enjoy over the weekend.
There are also soap making tours and wine tours that you can join if you want to broaden your horizon. Sonoma Wine Tours is a great way to get an up-close and personal look at wine making. You can check out vineyards that practice Biodynamic farming and learn about environmentally sound methods of farming. These tours make us appreciate the benefits of all natural products, practicing green habits and adopting a back to the basics lifestyle in our community.
