I was lucky to be given a voucher by Adidas to join the King Of The Road (KOTR) run last July 7, 2013. Unfortunately, I am quite far from the event place so I asked a blogger friend to run for me instead. I was glad that she agreed, and this was her experience 🙂
I am the Queen of the Road: Surviving My First 10k Run
by: Pepper of The Pepperrific Life
Running is like eating a can of potato chips- once you pop, you can’t stop! I started joining fun runs this year, and I must say that the running addiction has caught on, and I feel that I want to join one run after another.
This running high has reached a feverish pitch when I joined the recently concluded Adidas King of the Road (KOTR) 2013. When blogger friend Levy offered me a complimentary race kit to the event, I had no second thoughts and immediately jumped at the chance.
This was my first 10k run, so you could imagine the various scenarios running through my head up until the night before race day. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish the race, let alone cover 3-quarters of the total distance. I was almost dead certain I was going to reach the finish line before everybody else- in an ambulance!
Luckily the worst didn’t happen. I made it to the finish line in one piece. Unmindful of my broken shoes and the burning pain in my right knee and calves, I pushed on. I survived.
Overall, I’d say it was a good running event. Hydration stations were aplenty, and the marshalls knew where the runners were supposed to go. Cheerers in pink- or was it orange- wigs rooting for you along the way gave a festive mood to the race. Although the somewhat unsystematic and higgledy-piggledy race kit distribution prior to the event tested the patience of many a disgruntled runner, the organizers seemed to make up for it on race day.
And now, the question remains: will I run another 10k? Will I once more subject the balls of my feet to sheer torture? I guess I will. Overcoming such an obstacle is akin to the way I look at life- when things start to hurt, that’s when you know things are working. This is only the beginning of bigger things to come.

KOTR 2011 was my ALL family member’s first run. Together with my hubby, our 2 kids and all my sister’s family. I think we were almost 20. We all had a great time back then. Most of us are still running.
