Any trip to the City by the Bay is going to be fun, but there’s something about visiting during the fall that makes people excited about coming back. Whether it’s the local events or the weather, you’ll love San Francisco in the autumn. Though there are countless reasons you should take a fall visit to the city, the following are some of the most popular.
Number 1 Fall Getaway
It’s not just this author’s opinion that fall is the greatest time to visit San Francisco. U.S. News & World Report ranked the city as No. 1 on its list of best fall getaways. The magazine made its decision based on what’s available to do in the city, so even if you’ve got the nicest suite at The Fairmont San Francisco, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by heading out for a trip on the town.
Fewer Crowds
One of the best reasons to visit San Francisco during the fall is the relatively low number of tourists flooding the city. The summer months are the prime time for masses of visitors to roll in, but they quickly start disappearing when autumn hits.
Fewer tourists mean cash savings. San Francisco hotels, for instance, often offer lower rates to attract guests during their slower months. Clubs and bars are also more likely to offer great deals to drum up business during their downtime.
Great Events for Kids
If you’re traveling with little ones, San Francisco is the perfect place during the fall. Let’s face it, even if you’re staying in a place as nice as Le Meridien, you’re going to want to get out of the room before the kids drive you up a beautiful wall. Go check out the LEAP Sandcastle Contest, which is free to the public, or check out the Potrero Hill Festival and its petting zoo and puppet shows.
Festivals Abound!
Autumn in San Francisco is the right time for fabulous festivals. The Treasure Island Music Festival is in October and combines an amazing lineup of talent with attractions including a Ferris wheel. The Burning Man Decompression event is also held in October, and the Green Festival is in November.
If you’re an active person, you might also enjoy the Thanksgiving Day 5K run. Is 5K not enough for you? Then you should check out the Glide Bridge-to-Bridge Run which has 5K and 12K lengths. It starts at the Bay Bridge, and if you’re not a distance runner, the Harbor Court Hotel is a great place to see the runners since it’s only a seven-minute walk from the bridge.
San Francisco is the place to be during the fall. From amazing festivals to smaller crowds, you’ll find a ton of reasons to enjoy the city when the leaves start changing. Just remember that there are countless other things to enjoy in San Francisco, so make a point of exploring and finding new reasons to visit.
